Izumi no Kami Kanesada (Toshizo Hijikata) Style
Toshizo Hijikata was gifted the Izumi no Kami Kanesada by Katamori Matsudaira. After Hijikata's death, his page brought the sword from Hakodate, the site of his final battle, to his elder brother, Hikogoro Sato. It is currently preserved at the Toshizo Hijikata Museum in Hino City.
This sword features a shinogi-zukuri blade with a thick overall construction and substantial weight. The hamon (temper line) is Kanesada's signature large undulating pattern with small waves, creating a double hamon with a clearly defined nioi-guchi (edge area). This type of hamon is characteristic of the Kanesada school.
The koshirae (mountings) are based on Toshizo Hijikata's style. The tsuba (hand guard) is the Hijikata Tanzaku design, and the vermilion saya (scabbard) is adorned with phoenixes, exuding Hijikata Toshizo's essence.
