The Osborne Art Studio operated as one of the highly regarded boutique decorating firms in the Chicago area, frequently competing with makers like Pickard and Bauer. Olsen purchased fine undecorated European porcelain blanks-such as pieces from Hutschenreuther in Bavaria—and applied elaborate Art Nouveau and Art Deco motifs, complete with dense gilding. These are processes that would be time and cost prohibitive in today’s market.
