Description
This is a wooden decorative plate that was found while cleaning out my family home. It is believed to have been purchased in Florence over 40 years ago. A plate stand for display is included. As it is an old item, there are some scratches (photo 8).
This painting is a part of the fresco The Procession of the Magi painted by Benozzo Gozzoli in the Magi Chapel of the Medici Riccardi Palace in Florence from 1459-1462. Riding a horse with a cheetah is Melchior, one of the three Magi. This is said to be the figure of Giuliano de' Medici, the younger brother of Lorenzo the Magnificent (Lorenzo de' Medici), and is a masterpiece symbolizing the power of the Medici family.
Regarding ALINARI engraved on the back, Fratelli Alinari (F.lli Alinari) is the world's oldest photographic archive and photo studio, established in Florence in 1852. They photographed and preserved works of art, Italian landscapes, and historical moments, boasting an immense collection of millions of images.
