Kaga Hachiman Daruma Doll - Hariko - Nakajima Menya - Kanazawa - Ishikawa
Kaga Hachiman Daruma, a symbol of good fortune meaning fall down seven times, get up eight,
is a traditional craft that has been passed down in Kanazawa for a long time.
It originated from prayers for the growth and happiness of children, and is famous as a lucky charm with its adorable appearance depicting pine, bamboo, and plum blossoms.
This was purchased in Kanazawa about 30 years ago. I believe the design is slightly different from the dolls currently on sale.

[Features]
It is said to have originated in the past when there was one Hachiman Shrine in Kaga, and a virtuous old man living in front of the shrine created this Kaga Hachiman Daruma for children, modeled after the swaddling clothes in which Hachiman-san (Emperor Ojin, the enshrined deity) was wrapped at birth, praying for their growth and happiness.
It is characterized by its adorable appearance, with Japanese paper pasted onto a mold, coated with gofun and vermilion, and decorated with pine, bamboo, and plum blossoms.
It was selected as the design for the New Year's commemorative stamp in Showa 30 (1955).
