DENON CD Player DCD-1650AZ - Serviced and Working

The classic DCD-1650AZ is equipped with DENON's proprietary AL24 Processing, which performs 24-bit calculations during playback. Combined with the high-quality 24-bit DAC (PCM1704) from Burr-Brown, it has a well-established reputation for sound quality. It was selected as the grand prize winner in the CD player category of the 15th FMfan Dynamic Test Grand Prize, chosen by Mr. Tetsuo Nagaoka, known as the God of Audio, surpassing higher-end models.

When purchasing a used DCD-1650AZ, there is one important point to note. Please choose models with serial numbers starting with 90, as shown in the 13th image. Models with serial numbers starting with 0, 1, or other numbers from 91 onwards use Analog Devices OP262 operational amplifiers, which are known to fail quite frequently. The product being offered has a serial number starting with 90, and we have confirmed that the operational amplifier has been replaced with the improved Analog Devices AD8058 (14th image), which provides peace of mind. If the operational amplifier fails, the unit will not read discs even if the pickup lens is replaced with a new one. Please be aware that there are modified units available that bypass the failed OP262's RF board.

For this listing, we have replaced the pickup lens, which was still usable, and also replaced the rubber belt that causes tray open/close issues, the overcurrent protection element, and the rocker switch, all with new parts. In some cases, the DAC can fail due to its own heat generation, resulting in no sound from one or both channels when using analog connections. Therefore, as a precaution, we have installed heatsinks on both DACs (Images 15 & 16). *These were not installed from new, so we cannot guarantee prevention of DAC degradation. We have also removed the sticky residue caused by the hydrolysis of the tray's paint, which is a common issue with this model, and repainted it, so there is no stickiness.

We have confirmed that CD playback is functioning correctly for both channels using analog output (FIXED) and digital output (OPTICAL). The remote control also responds well. We have cleaned the PHONES jack to eliminate crackling.
