This is a rare, unused, soft-action *hera* (crucian carp fishing) rod made by Masao.

This is a rare, finely crafted soft-action *hera* rod. It is a 4-section, 13-shaku rod with a butt diameter of only 9.3mm.
The mid-section and the section below the mid-section are luxuriously made from aged Koyadake bamboo.
This rod is recommended for those who enjoy the fight with the fish.

Furthermore, all the ferrules on this rod have a double-wrap finish, similar to that of a Kohu rod.

Masao was a rod maker known for his slender, soft-action rods.
A common characteristic of his rods is their light feeling in hand.
They feel light for some reason.

Masao also had a pseudonym,
and he produced a very small number of rods under the name Shunkei.
The rod being offered is a luxurious rod with tight nodes (short internodes). The grip is also elaborately finished with a combined decoration of rattan wrapping and silk thread weaving.

There are no deformations or cracks in the ferrules.
As it has been unused since purchase, the rod's straightness is within the natural range for bamboo.
Of course, this is a Kishu-style *hera* rod.

The *hera* rod being offered this time is entirely made by Masao, including the tip.
All sections have the same rod joint scratch/mark.
Masao's soft-action rods inexplicably do not have a brand mark on the rod plug, but it is original.

Masao was a disciple of Ichimonji (same school as Yagose), who was a disciple of Daimon Goro (a master rod maker) from the Shiko lineage.

Masao did not take any disciples.

In my opinion, considering that Ichimonji was from the same school as Yagose, who is currently hailed as a genius rod maker, and that Ichimonji also studied under the same master as Daimon Goro, it is impossible for this to be a poorly made rod.
