Shingon Buddhism
With Dainichi Nyorai as the principal Buddha, it aims for instant enlightenment through the power of the three mysteries: the physical mystery (shinmitsu) of forming mudras, the verbal mystery (kumitsu) of chanting mantras, and the mental mystery (imitsu) of contemplating the principal image in the mind.
In the early 9th century, Kūkai, who traveled to Tang China, learned Esoteric Buddhism from Huiguo and established a sect upon his return.

Kobo Daishi (Kūkai)
[774-835] Founder of Shingon Buddhism.
Traveled to Tang China in Enryaku 23 (804).
Established Kongobu-ji Temple on Mount Koya and made To-ji Temple in Kyoto a Shingon training center.
