The back is stiff, like the back of a carpet. (Softer than a carpet and foldable.) The third photo shows it just taken out of storage after being folded. After taking the photo, I rolled it up and the creases started to disappear. (Photo updated.)
I'm looking at other Islamic prayer mats now and noticed that this one doesn't have a mosque design, and the tag says Prayer Rug, so I'm not sure about its true purpose. I bought it for interior decoration (as a tapestry or for the back of a sofa), but it is unused and has been stored at home for a long time.
Shipping will likely be folded. If you prefer it shipped rolled, it will be an additional 200 yen.
There are no washing or material care instructions, so it's unclear how to care for it, but I don't think it's something that needs frequent washing.
