Very hardy and will grow in most soil conditions. Enjoy fresh perilla leaves as a garnish or tempura in early summer, and in autumn, harvest the perilla flowers (shiso no mi) for pickling in salt or soy sauce, or as a garnish. If you harvest a lot of leaves, you can also make green perilla juice.
*Lemon balm's upper parts will die back in winter, but the roots are alive and will sprout again the following year. It is a perennial herb with a lemon-like fragrance, suitable for potpourri and herbal tea.
