Sumi-tsubo (Ink Marker) - Crane and Tortoise - Artistic Carving - Traditional Fine Craftsmanship - Tsubogen - Total Length: Approx. 310mm

This item was displayed and sold for a long time at a long-established hardware store (genuine product).

A sumitsubo is a carpentry tool used to draw a line by dipping a string in pigment, stretching it taut, and then snapping it.
This is a classic sumitsubo with crane and turtle carvings, considered auspicious since ancient times, as it is said that cranes live for a thousand years, and turtles for ten thousand years.

Unfortunately, wooden sumitsubo are rarely in demand as carpentry tools anymore. However, their artistic and craft value is beginning to be recognized.
There is demand from craftsmen who used to be carpenters and want to have one in their hands again, or from those who want to decorate their rooms with it as a traditional art craft or antique.
