Traditional Japanese ceramic Shinto ritual vessel
Unused.
This is a vessel for offering water. It is short and has a plump, teardrop shape. The lid is removed when offering it during special ceremonies. It is customary to change the water every morning, and it is said to be good to use the water that has been offered, rather than discarding it, by sprinkling it at the entrance or in the garden for purification, or by watering houseplants.
