Vintage Southwestern Studio Pottery Vase – Pueblo Village Relief Utah Artist
Gary Peterson
This is a beautifully crafted handmade ceramic studio pottery vase featuring a carved raised pueblo village relief design, inspired by traditional Southwestern adobe architecture. The surface showcases stacked village dwellings with ladders and small windows, finished in a matte charcoal black and stone gray glaze that creates an earthy, desert-worn appearance. The vase is finished with a matte glaze / slip-glaze, giving it a flat, stone-like texture typical of Southwestern studio pottery. Due to the matte finish and handmade nature, this piece is best used as a decorative art vase. Water-tightness has not been tested. Signed in 88 - The base retains its original label: Made by W. Gary Peterson Salt Lake City, Utah, identifying it as the work of a regional American studio potter, active in the mid-to-late 20th century. This is not Native American pottery, but rather Native-inspired studio art, which was popular among Western U.S. artists of the period. A striking accent for Southwestern, Santa Fe, desert modern, or boho interiors. In great condition. No cracks or chips. Minor signs of wear consistent with age. Shop with confidence!
