4-75 Goto Bamon Kite Decoration 14x9
This is a decoration for a Goto Bara-mon kite.
Size: 14cm (height) x 9cm (width)
It was stored in a bag, so the inside is clean. However, it has been stored for many years, so we ask for your understanding.
Bara-mon kites have been traditionally made on Fukue Island in the Goto Islands, located at the westernmost edge of the Japanese archipelago.
The name Bara-mon for these kites comes from the practice of grandfathers and fathers making them for their sons' first Hina Matsuri (traditional Girls' Day, celebrated on the old March 3rd). A unique humming sound is produced by the unari (a buzzing device) attached to the top of the kite, which is believed to ward off evil spirits, pray for the child's healthy growth, success in life, and family safety as the kite is flown high in the sky.
